As a kid, I would wait all year for the freedom of school-free summer days. I grew up before kids were under constant surveillance, so I was left to entertain myself most of the time. I would build my own little worlds—of course, reading books and watching TV, but I also spent a lot of time taking photos of the flowers outside or vlogging in my closet before YouTube even existed.
Looking back, it seems like every year there was always one big thing that blew my whole world open and ushered me into a new phase of my life. A family vacation that left me obsessed with dolphins. A potion making camp at the botanical gardens that taught me that nature is full of magical resources. Sneaking out to try prime times (cherry flavor) and stolen bottles of premixed margarita in the canal behind the neighborhood pool. I remember these days so vividly — the softness of the dolphin skin and the smell of the flowers, and the burning in my throat and esophagus.
As we grow older it can seem like this magic starts to slip away, but we are the ones that changed. We think we have the world figured out, we stop looking at it with wonder and excitement. We stop using our imagination to create things when someone says it is impossible. But your frontal lobe developing doesn’t mean you aren’t allowed to dream!
Next week we have something very exciting to introduce…
Stay tuned :)
I CANNOT WAIT to hear everything about this
